Locations:      Musselwhite Mine & Onaping Depth Project
Rotation:        2 weeks on, 2 weeks off
Department:  Operations

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • In coordination with the Health and Safety Department and the Project, the Safety Coordinator will be responsible for implementing, facilitating and monitoring health and safety programs, evaluating safe work procedures and ensuring compliance with company policies, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other local regulatory requirements and perform any one of more of the following tasks:
    • Adopting the Client's and CCI safety policies and working with employees and contractors to ensure they are adhering to these policies
    • Gathering and reporting of the safety statistics for the Project
    • Implementing new safe work practices
    • Develop, implement, monitor and maintain safety programs
    • Ensure all project personnel understand and comply with company policies and procedures, and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements
    • Coach supervisors on their legal responsibilities in the protection of their workers
    • Assist in developing job hazard analysis for new or non-routine tasks
    • Perform audits/inspections and maintain records including audit recommendations
    • Utilize risk assessments to ensure work on site is carried out safely using appropriate protective equipment, procedures and tools
    • Coordinate the process of Health and Safety reporting on the project
    • Prepare, implement and review emergency response plans
    • Participate in safety meetings, JHSC meetings, incident investigations, workplace inspections, etc. as outlined in the Cementation Safety Management System
    • Lead the orientation process of Cementation and subcontractor employees
    • Conduct training audits
    • Facilitate risk assessments
    • Address client concerns in a timely and diligent manner
    • Promote the safety and well-being of the team members
    • Other such duties as may be assigned

 

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Fully supports and actively participates in the team safety program based on culture and innovation
  • Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect, or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is not used and communicated to the supervisor
  • Ensure applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied at all times for all such work
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace

 

Pre-Employment Qualifications:

Pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing
Degree or certification in Occupational Health & Safety or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), and/or equivalent relative experience as a safety lead is desirable
Full Basic Underground Common Core
Train the Trainer
Minimum 5 years related work experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a mining environment

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

WHMIS
Fall Arrest
Self-rescuers
Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
Efficient multitasking abilities
Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
Proven ability to deal with confidential information
Able to work in a team environment, be self-motivated and enthusiastic
Working knowledge of safety and health compliance, monitoring and reporting
Strong safety performance and familiarity with implementing established safety systems
Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, analytical and presentation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
Ability to lead to lead and motivate in health and safety
